Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Ministers have re-echoed the need for the subjects who have not yet embraced the idea of planting trees on the bear hills and valleys to positively respond to the call as an alternative of mitigating the effects of climate change in the Rwenzori Sub region.
The ministers including Aganatiya Katya for Culture and Naume Mbambu for Lands and Agriculture sounded the remarks today afternoon while meeting some of the cultural institution’s Development Partners on Climate Change Programs from People and Nature Rwenzori and Fair Ventures Worldwide at the Buhikira Royal Hill min Kasese town.
Hon. Katya who represented the Prime Minister at the meeting hailed the partners for planting trees on a number of hills including the Buhikira Royal Hill and Rwesororo Hill in Kisinga Sub-county as well as planting bamboo trees along the Kithakena River valley in Maliba sub-county.
On her part, Hon. Mbambu was optimistic that the bamboo trees planted along the river valleys and banks would help in mitigating mudslides which are currently common in Kasese district.
Mr. Jackson Mumbere, the Programs Director at People and Nature Rwenzori Mountains, revealed that the program of planting trees on all hills belonging to Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu in Kasese district started in 2019 and would end in 2030. According to him, the organization has so far planted more than 2000 trees.
Mr. James Thembo, the Head of Field Operations at Fair Ventures Worldwide reported that the partnership would Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu has registered progress.
