NRM cadre calls for security at temporarily established camps in Kasese

BY ZALIMON BASIGHALHA (GOOD LUCK)

Mr. Jim Kalimunda, the Kyondo sub-county NRM Chairperson in Bukonzo County East, Kasese district has appealed to the security organs to always deploy at the temporarily established camps in order to curtail the bad elements from using them as soft targets to cause havoc.

The camps were early this month created following heavy rains that caused mudslides and floods which led to destruction of property including houses and crops. The mudslides also left 13 people dead in some parts of the district.

In Bukonzo County East, the most affected sub-counties include Kyondo, Kyarumba and Kyarumba Town Council where at least 12 camps accommodating 5,000 people have been established.

Speaking to the press after visiting all the 12 camps, Mr. Kalimunda, who had accompanied the constituency NRM Chairperson, Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude, observed need for security organs in the district to deploy at every camp given their location in the mountainous and their proximity to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park.

He, however, requested the management committees of the established camps to formulate by-laws that would help them control the security and health matters in those established camps as they wait for government’s intervention.
