Police reveal the exact number of people who died following yesterday’s heavy downpour in Kasese

The police in the Rwenzori East Region have officially confirmed that only nine people lost their lives following yesterday’s heavy downpour that befell most parts of Kasese district.

The downpour that started in the wee hours at around 5:00am caused havoc especially in the sub-counties of Kyarumba, Kyondo and Nyakabingo.

Despite several reports circulating on different social media platforms giving varying numbers in terms of death of toll, the Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime says that only nine people died.

According to him, Kyondo Sub-county registered four deaths. The deceased were Bridget Biira, 11, Anthony Kule, 8, Edwin Thembo, 5, and Abunel Bwambale.

For Kyalhumba, he named Cyprus Kambale, Margret Kabugho, John Bihandi and a two – week’s baby while a 30 –year –old woman, Alice Mbambu was also killed by a mudslide that hit the house in which she was sleeping in Nyakabingo Sub-county. 

He, however, used the same platform to warn the public against the practice of burying their relatives who mysteriously die without making postmortems.

The Police Mouthpiece reiterated his call to the people living in disaster prone areas to temporarily relocate to safer places as they wait for the rainy season to come to an end.
