Kasese residents tipped on economic empowerment

BY ISAAC MUMBERE

Savings’ groups have been called upon to embrace new technologies as means to enhance efficiency within their operations.

Ms Diana Musiime, a principal town agent at Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipal Council says once Saccos embrace the use of new technologies, it will become easier for their members to save their money without the burden of having to travel.

Ms. Musiime also courts people to endeavor to join saving groups emphasizing the opportunities that come with belonging to groups including an enhanced return on investment.

Ms Musiime’s comments come shortly after Strides Development Sacco introduced an online banking system that enables members to conduct transactions without having to travel to the Sacco premises in Kasese town.

Joyfred Rwamanyonyi, the Sacco manager says the initiative is intended to reduce on the transport costs incurred by the members whenever they want to make deposits on their accounts and also cut on time spent on travel.

Rwamanyonyi argues that embracing new banking technologies should be an incentive for people to even save more so as to cushion themselves from money demanding eventualities when they eventually happen.
