Jubilations and joy yesterday rocked St. John’s Nyabirongo Church of Uganda in Kisinga Parish, Kisinga Archdeaconry as the Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku laid a foundation stone on the church building.
The church located in Butwe Cell in Kisinga Town Council is said to have been established in the area by the Late Rev. Can. Yohana Masereka in 1998 as a way of extending the gospel of Christ nearer to the people.
The idea of having a church in the area is believed to have been welcomed by 14 other believers including the Late Yowasi Kasoma.
According to the official records, so far 10 Lay readers have served at St. John’s Nyabirongo Church of Uganda and some of them are currently serving as priests in the Anglican Church, South Rwenzori Diocese including Rev. Jetress Kananga and Rev. Violet Masika among others.
Currently, the church has over 600 Christians which the administration considers as a great achievement.
Speaking in a jovial mood, Mr. Nelson Masereka, a Lay reader at St. John’s Nyabirongo Church of Uganda said he was the happiest person seeing the church that he currently serves receive a name during his regime.
In his remarks, Bishop Nason Baluku commended the church leadership for their tireless work towards spreading the Word of God and for also naming the church after its founder, the Late Rev. Can. Yohana Masereka.

He also re-echoed his earlier appeal to the Christians and the Church leadership to consider establishing some income generating projects for the sustainability of the church developments.
During the service, the prelate confirmed 55 believers into the Anglican faith.
Earlier in his preaching, the Man of God had encouraged the believers in Christ to prioritize prayer in their daily activities if they are to conquer and overcome the devil.
The Bishop stressed that God was aware of everyone’s burdens but only wants the people to remind and ask him through prayer.
He reminded the Christians that prayer has no specific place and time, observing need for them to be sacrificing every free minute that they get for prayers regardless of where they might be.
