The Rwenzururu King, Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma has congratulated the Kingdom’s Royal Guards upon their release from prison after close to seven years of incarceration.
The Omusinga together with over 200 of his Royal Guards were arrested on November 27, 2016, during a joint military raid of the UPDF and Police on his Buhikira Royal Palace in Kasese town.
They were then arraigned on court and slapped with criminal cases including treasons, murder and attempted murder, aggravated robbery among others. However, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions – DPP on Tuesday June 13, 2023 dropped all the charges slapped against them and since then, they regained their freedom and have since returned to their respective homes.
However, in his press statement released on Monday, the Omusinga urged the Royal Guards never to be misled again but to embrace government programs.
He also called upon the people who he said are trading in confusing the region to stop forthwith, adding that they are also known. His Majesty cautioned the people against asking the criteria in which he was released saying they needed to understand how the prisoners were suffering.
Commenting about the recent attack by suspected ADF rebels on a secondary School in Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council, the Omusinga condemned the act and sympathized with the aggrieved families. He asked the population to work closely with security by reporting any suspects’ hideouts as it was the case in 1998.
