Kasese District Local Government has launched the construction works of a three kilometer Bunyambaka road worth shillings 76 million from the Uganda Road Fund in Lake Katwe Sub-county.
The road stretches from Bunyambaka Salt Lake to Kasenyi junction along the Kikorongo – Katunguru High Way. The road which will be constructed using the Emergency funds will have first class marrum according to the District Engineer.
While officiating at the launch of the construction works yesterday, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Joe Walusimbi asked the District leadership through the Engineering Department to serious supervise and monitor the project to ensure quality work. Lt. Walusimbi also encouraged the Lake Katwe Sub-county leadership to utilize the road to market the products from Lake Bunyambaka which is well known for producing salt.
Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, the Kasese District Chairperson explained that they decided to open up roads in the lower local government a one of the ways of implementing the NRM manifesto that mandates for the delivery of services to the people.
The District Boss urged the community members to be create and innovative enough through initiating more enterprises for income generation to their families.
Mr. Wilson Asiimwe, the L. C III Chairperson for Lake Katwe Sub-county, who hailed the Government of Uganda for such a project, told the press that due to the existing poor roads, they have been losing clients who could come and buy salt from the Lake. Mr. Philip Sejemba, the Sub-county Chief told the press that the road construction would cause development in the lower local government, adding that more roads including Busunga-Rwamate (7 kilometres) and Kabirizi – Ntunkwa (5 kilometres) and Hamukungu (10 kilometres) would be worked upon using the Emergency funds at a tune of shillings 200 million.
