Flood victims temporarily encamped at Muhokya in Muhokya Town Council, Busongora County South in Kasese district have reminded the government of the need to expedite the process of resettling them.
In 2020, most rivers streaming from the Rwenzori Mountains burst their banks and caused devasting floods that strayed into the communities, leading to destruction of property and displacement of people.
Yesterday afternoon, a delegation from Rio- Events Company, a Nongovernmental Organization visited the camp and donated an assortment of food and no-food items including clothes to the victims.
Upon receiving the donation, the victims revealed that they were facing a lot of challenges related to poor shelters, health and food shortage among others, reminding the government of the need to have them resettled to permanent places.
Sam Baluku, a Director at Rio-Events Company who is also looking for the NUP flag for the position of Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament together with his co-directors delivered the donation to the victims. The donation was delivered under the theme, “Loving the Forgotten.”
It included essential items such soap, clothes, beans, posho, beans, maize flour, books, pens and pencils among others.
During the visit, a Lawyer and student of Journalism and Communication expressed concern over the government’s alleged failure to resettle the flood victims five years after the disaster. He appealed to the well-wishers to come to the rescue to the victims who he said have continued living in the harsh conditions while in the camp.
