Residents of Muhokya Town Council in Kasese District have welcomed Nyamughasana Water Supply and Sanitation Project that is being implemented in the district by the Government of Uganda.
The mega water project is funded by the World Bank at a tune of shillings 62 billion for the first phase.
The first phase will cover 11 Lower Local Governments including Kyarumba, Kyondo, Kisinga, Kahokya, Muhokyaand Kitabu.
Others are the Town Councils of Kisinga and Kyarumba.
Speaking to our reporter last evening, Mr. Mathias Bwambale Kikwara, a 57-year –old man and Martin Kule, both residents from Muhokya sub-county who practice farming from Bwenanule cell claim that the area has been experiencing water scarcity, forcing them to buy jerrycans at higher costs.
They commend the government for the initiative, adding that it will relieve them of the high costs of buying jerrycans of water.
The Assistant Commissioner for Water at the Ministry of Water and Environment, Eng. Lamu Olwenye explains that the water project will be completed by the end of December this year.
He stresses that the construction works have so far reached 65%, noting that they are determined to giving water to the people so that they improve on their sanitation and hygiene.
The Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Bukonzo County, Lt. Maate Magwara, called on the people whose pieces of land were affected by the project to be patient as the government processes their compensation packages.
