Christians reminded to embrace apiculture

BY MATHIUS KAHUNGU

The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese has re-echoed the need for the Christians to invest in apiculture as an alternative source of income and nature conservation.

Apiculture is the practice of keeping bees and maintaining hives, primarily for the commercial production of honey, beeswax, and other bee products like pollen.

Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku sounded the remarks yesterday while addressing the Christians who had throned Buhuhira Church of Uganda Parish for an episcopal visit.

He reiterated that the Diocese was among others seeking to incorporate honey production in fulfilment of the Diocesan 10-year- Strategic Plan for both income generation and nature conservation, urging the Christians and church leadership with isolated pieces of land and those located near swamps to embrace the idea.

The Man of God revealed that the Diocese intends to establish a honey processing plant but her efforts are hampered by the low production of honey by the farmers.
