The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has embarked on a campaign of empowering learners in some tertiary institutions spread across the Rwenzori Region with the knowledge on taxation laws advising the authority’s systems.
Organized under the theme, “Voluntary Income Tax Assistant,” the campaign started yesterday morning at Rwenzori College of Commerce in Kasese town with trainings meant to help the learners to appreciate the importance of paying taxes for the growth and development of the country.
Ms Felina Vicky Lodia, the Acting Supervisor for Tax Education in the region told the press shortly after the training session that they decided to carry out the campaign after realizing that most learners were innocent about taxation and tax laws.
According to her, they have also partnered with the National Curriculum Development Centre to incorporate the topics on taxation into the various course units at University, College and Secondary levels.
Mr. Moses Thembo, the College’s Principal Tutor appreciated the management of URA for the initiative that he said would help the learners especially those offering business related courses to widen their knowledge.
Emmanuel Okiror, the College’s Guild President pledged that they would also sensitize the communities about the need to willingly pay taxes for their associated benefits.
