Over 65 households from Kabunga village, Karusandara sub-county in Kasese district are still displaced while others are living with their neighbors following last Sunday’s incident in which River Mubuku flooded causing devastating floods that strayed into their houses.
On Sunday evening, some mountainous parts of Kasese district experienced heavy rains that resulted into flooding of River Mubuku which later poured its debris in Karusandara sub-county leaving some community members displaced.
Today, our reporter visited Kabunga village and interacted with Marion Mbambu, one of the affected residents and a mother of two children.
The disappointed mother who regretted the incident said together with her children and 20 other people, they are now staying in a four-roomed house belonging to her in-law.
Mr. Timothy Okello, a resident in the area and a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God that played a key role in rescuing the victims told our reporter that that most of people who were affected have their houses constructed in the areas that flooded.
He appealed to the government to devise quick means of de-silting the confluence (meeting point) of Rivers Mubuku, Kabaka and Nkoko.
Harriet Mbabazi, a 36- year-old resident and Maritha Singeyuvu, a 39 year-old resident in the affected village had their houses and crop gardens destroyed.
The duo told our reporter that that they were still struggling to get money to rent rooms at the nearby trading centre.
Mr. Stephen Hafasha, the Chairperson for Kabunga village revealed that the 65 households that were affected also had their crop gardens destroyed by the floods.
He regretted that the village that once used to be a food basket for Kasese district will be the one whose residents will begin begging for food to eat.
