BY JOACKIM KULE MUHESI

South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has raised concerns over the low staffing levels in both government- aided primary and secondary schools in Kasese District.

Bishop Baluku made the remarks on Friday during his address to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Can. Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda who had come to the district to officiate over the 6th graduation ceremony of 504 graduates at Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery in Kisinga Town Council.

Bishop Baluku noted to the Permanent Secretary that it is surprising that some schools are still lacking teachers of essential subjects especially sciences and languages.

He opined that such gaps fundamentally affect the academic performance of the affected schools.

Can. Dr. Turyagyenda responded that she had d taken note of the challenges that the schools are facing and would forge ways to address the gaps.

However, Kasese District Vice Chairperson, Mr. Jerevesious Monday Bwambale agreed that there are staffing gaps in various schools across the district.

He, however, revealed that in primary education where the local government has jurisdiction, recruitment of new teachers is on-going and emphasis would be on placing the new teachers to schools grappling with acute staff shortage especially those in the mountainous areas.
