Institutions of Higher Learning in Kasese district have been asked to adopt and implement the Ministry of Education and Sports’ Competency Based Assessment (CBA) Policy as they train the learners.
Competency Based Assessment is an approach used to evaluate an individual’s skills and abilities based on specific job requirements.
Addressing stakeholders from the different tertiary institutions in Kasese Municipality at One-stop Center, the President of Kasese Municipal Development Forum, Daniel Ngangasi II stressed that most colleges were teaching the learners using the Knowledge Based Assessment that is often characterized by a low demand in the job market.
Ngangasi who also doubles as the Managing Director for Liberty College of Management and Journalism told the participants that following the introduction of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the Ministry is currently emphasizing Competency Based Assessment.
He therefore appealed to the Tertiary Institutions and Colleges in particular to acquire a TVET accreditation as well as adhering to the new Education Policy to avoid being embarrassed by the Ministry.
Mr. Emmy Mwesige Kayiri, the Kasese Municipal Education Officer observed the need for the institutions of learning to embrace the modern technology in an attempt for them to be updated on the new policies and innovations in the Education Sector.
The Kasese Municipal Deputy Town Clerk, Zedekiah Kambasu Kayiri, who hailed the Colleges for boosting the economy of Uganda through imparting skills to the citizens, however, implored them to follow the new changes as directed by the line Ministry.
