The family of Mr Erias Muthende of Habitat in Nyamwamba East of Nyamwamba Division is counting losses after their house was gutted by fire this afternoon.

Mr Moses Kathaba, the Nyamwamba East Chairperson said whereas the residents made an attempt to put out the fires, several properties were reduced to ashes because of the fires whose exact cause is yet to be known.

According to Mr Kathaba, no person was injured by the fire as the incident happened when Mr Muthende and his entire household were not at home.

Mr Costa Baluku, a resident of the same area says the incident which happened at around 2’O clock saw the neighbours use water and soil to put off the fires. They also created a hole on the house to pull out some house items since the doors had been locked.

Mr Badru Thembo, another eyewitness noted that delay by police to reach the scene on time was partly to blame for the huge destruction that was inflicted on the house.

Thembo, who says they reached out to police as soon as they noticed the fires, appealed to the security force’s fire department to always swiftly respond to incidents as they happen in order to minimize losses.
