The police in Kasese district have arrested two people who were found in possession of a hippopotamus meat.
The suspects were arrested last evening from their home in Kahendero Cell, Muhokya Town Council.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime has identified the suspects as Patrick Mumbere, 24 and Robert Mumbere, 21.
According to him, they were found in possession of two heads suspected to be of hippopotamuses and other wild meat which was in a sack was also recovered.
He says their arrest came after the public became suspicious of two individuals in the area and alerted the police that later swung into action to apprehend the suspects who are now detained at Kasese Central Police Station.
The Regional Police Mouthpiece also stresses that their detectives are working around the clock to have the two suspects arraigned in the courts of law to answer charges that have been preferred against them.
He has since reiterated his call to the residents to desist from the practice of entering into the protected areas, adding that it is illegal and against the law.
