Security operatives in Kasese district are still hunting for the leaders of the notorious criminal gangs that have been terrorizing Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Town Council in Bukonzo County West.
In the previous weeks, security operatives mounted a joint operation of the police and UPDF around the border area and apprehended 34 suspected criminals while on the 17th of this month, other 15 suspected criminals were also arrested.
All the arrested 49 suspected criminals have since been committed to court and are now on remand at Rusese and Katwe Uganda Government Prisons.
Lt. Maate Magwara, the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Bukonzo County says the arrest of the suspected criminals follows a public outcry that they have been terrorizing the communities.
Magwara says society operatives are still searching for the people who have been sponsoring those gangs so that they are apprehended and charged accordingly.
He urges the community members around the border to work with the security operatives in identifying the suspected elements so that they are investigated.
However, Magwara is happy that in the past five days, he has been getting reports indicating that the communities are being relieved of losing their property to the suspected thugs.
He also calls for cooperation with the security operatives in an attempt to clean the area.
