Kasese: NRM temporarily stops receiving new members this month

ZALIMON BASIGHALHA (GOOD LUCK)

The Kasese district NRM office has put a temporary halt on receiving defectors from the opposition political parties.

District NRM Administrative Secretary, Mr. Robert Mitse made the revelation yesterday while receiving over 200 defectors mainly from FDC and NUP.

The defectors drawn from Munkunyu, Kisinga and Kyondo sub-counties and Kisinga Town Council were first received by the Bukonzo County East NRM Chairperson, Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude who later handed them over to the District NRM leadership at three separate places including St. John’s Kamughobe Church of Uganda, St. Peter’s Kajorogho Church of Uganda and Nyamugasani Primary School respectively.

At all the venues, Mr. Mitse revealed that yesterday was the last day for them to receive new defectors since the country was approaching to the electioneering period. According to him, the temporary halt is aimed at giving the party time to carry out serious mobilization ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

He argued that sometimes the members of the opposition political parties pretend to be converting to the ruling party purposely to get money from NRM Secretariat.

To the defectors, Mitse encouraged them to become ambassadors of their new party so that it registers victory in the 2026 General Elections.

In his remarks, Dr. Rude lectured the defectors about the four principles of the NRM party that include patriotism, pan-africanism, socio-economic transformation and democracy.

He urged them to support the NRM flag bearers from the L. C I Chairpersons to the President.

Some of the defectors told our reporter that they decided to join the ruling party because of its good service delivery while others said they were tired of the alleged internal conflicts within the opposition political parties.
