BY OUR REPORTER

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese District has asked local and legislators from the district to oppose the Coffee Amendment Bill, 2024.

Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the District FDC Chairperson sounded the remarks today while speaking to the press in Kasese town.

The Coffee Bill, 2024which has sparked mixed reactions from various MPs and Ugandans, seeks to mainstream the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) into the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.

Kabuku, who condemned the bill’s proposal to rationalize the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), noted that the bill was aimed at cheating Ugandans through licensing the coffee farmers and benefiting individuals with self motivated interests.

He also argued that merging UCDA with the Ministry of Agriculture would undermine its effectiveness and compromise coffee quality and prices.

Kabuku further asked coffee farmers in Kasese district to rally behind the regional campaigns aimed at sensitizing farmers about the ineffectiveness bill.

The National Coffee (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is among several other Bills for rationalization of agencies and reducing public expenditure.
