Residents of Munkunyu Sub -county in Bukonzo County East, Kasese district have applauded government for its efforts towards improving healthcare services in the communities located in the mountainous areas across the local government.
The residents sounded the remarks yesterday during a function in which Kasese District Local Government was officially handing over a construction site of Kabingo Health Centre III to the contractors of Mariam & Brothers Trading Co. Ltd and Tobis Technical Services Ltd respectively.
The construction works which are expected to consume more than shillings 1 billion will also see a staff house and maternity ward constructed.
Mrs. Restatuta Biira Kahulho, a resident of Kyabisheri village commended the NRM government for improving social services to a level that they are currently being accessed by the poor and disadvantaged people.
Mr. Edson Bitswamba, the Chairperson for the Elderly Council in Kabingo Parish said that they were hopeful that the mortality rate would reduce after facility has become operational.
He, however, appealed to the government to consider equipping the mountainous facilities with modern machines that are always found in distant areas like Mbarara and Buhinga among others.
The Kabingo L.C II Chairperson, Mr. Yoledi Syanjuruka asked the district health department to deploy staff who are used to working in the hard to reach areas for effective service delivery to the population.
Kasese District Principal Assistant Secretary attached to the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Mustafa Kikusa, advised the population to support the facility and ensure that they offer some other pieces of land that would facilitate its expansion.
Kasese Deputy RDC in charge of Bukonzo County, Lt. Maate Magwara, encouraged the population to embrace vaccination, immunization of children, antenatal care and other services that would be offered at the facility.
He told them that government would deploy medical doctors to every health center III for the easy management of different cases.
