The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime has commissioned a two – unit science laboratory at Kisinga Vocational Secondary School in Kisinga Town Council, Kasese district.

According to a report by the School’s Head teacher, Mr. Benjamin Masereka, the science laboratory that was commissioned yesterday was constructed with funding from the Ministry of Education and Sports worth shillings 321 million with an aim of improving the teaching and learning of sciences.

He, however, reported to the Minister that despite the construction of a science laboratory, the Anglican Church of Uganda founded institution of learning was still grappling with a challenge of inadequate functional computers to help all the learners acquire ICT skills.

The Head teacher also stressed that the school is further facing another challenge of inadequate staffing, arguing that the institution currently has no teacher of English and Literature, Economics and Entrepreneurship on government payroll.

Masereka told the Minister that the school’s enrolment was increasing day by day but the facilities have remained the same, adding that the institution currently lacks six classrooms, library, and ICT laboratory among other essential structures.

Rev. Can. Jane Janet Muhindo, the Chairperson Board of Governors at Kisinga Vocational Secondary School explained that in addition to the usual academic curriculum, the school administration decided to offer vocational skills in carpentry and joinery, brick laying and concrete practice, electricity and electrical installation, hair dressing and salon management, tailoring and garment cutting and ICT.

She therefore asked the Minister to advocate for the institution for that it benefits from government grants since it was struggling to impart knowledge and skills to the young Ugandans.

In his address to the gathering, Minister Kabbyanga pledged to support the school with some computers before the end of the current Financial Year.

He also assured the school administration that he would submit all the challenges faced by the institution to the relevant ministries for redress.

To the student, Minister Kabbyanga encouraged them to be focused, courageous and ambitious towards their journey of education.
