Two arrested in Kasese for illegal entry into Queen Elizabeth National Park

The police in the Rwenzori East policing Region (Kasese district) are holding two men on accounts of poaching and illegal entry into the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

They are detained at Central Police Station in Kasese Municipality.

SP Nelson Tumushime, the Regional Police Spokesperson has identified the suspects as Johnson Bilhaghirwa, 43 and Zephanus Kule, 34, both residents of Busyangwa –Nyabirongo village in Kisinga sub county.

The Regional Police Mouthpiece says the suspects were arrested yesterday in possession of suspected wild meat suspected to be of a hippopotamus.

According to Tumushime, the suspects contravened section 30 sub section A and Section 70 sub section A of the 2019 Wildlife Act that prohibit people from entering wildlife protected areas without permission.

He also revealed that they are still hunting for more other 06 suspects who are on run over the same.

He cautioned the public against encroaching on the protected areas, noting that they harbor dangerous animals and that any violation to the set laws is criminal in nature.
