240 people displaced by the recent floods in Kasese district

At least 240 people have been displaced following the recent disasters in Kasese district.

Last week, especially on Thursday and Saturday, some parts of Kasese witnessed another wave of disasters that left four people dead while others were injured and property destroyed from the areas of Mapata in Bugoye sub-sub-county, Kyababinga – Kirembe Cell in the Central Division, Isule in Maliba sub-county, Ntunga in Buhuhira sub-county.

 Other areas include Kikongo in Kyarumba sub-county, Kyapa and Bulinda in Nyakabingo sub-county and Kyabwenge Parish in Mahango Sub-county.

Mr. Joseph Singoma, the Kasese District Disaster Focal Person who also doubles the District Senior Planner, says a partial report from the affected areas indicates that the 240 people from 140 households have so far been displaced are currently encamped at Katuruzi Trading Centre in Bugoye sub-county.

According to him, at least 584 houses, 30 acres of food crops were also destroyed; four pigs and two goats were buried during the incident while 15 retail shops at Isule Trading Centre were also affected.

He, however, explained that the District Disaster Management Committee where he sits as Secretary has so far shared a Rapid Assessment Report with the Office of the Prime Minister seeking support to the affected families.
