120 opposition supporters from Bukonzo County East in Kasese district defect to the ruling NRM party

Government’s efforts towards developing Bukonzo County East in Kasese district have influenced at least 120 people to defect from the opposition political parties to the ruling NRM party.

The defectors mainly from Kisinga Town Council and Kisinga Sub-county sounded the remarks today during the NRM mobilization meeting that was held at Kisinga Vocational Secondary School.

In their written report that was read by Mr. Swizin Masereka Basambya, the defectors highlighted that they appreciate the ruling party for the senior appointments to given to the people from their constituency.

The appointments include among others Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Engineer in-chief, Presidential Advisors and Chief Administrative Officers.

Basambya also mentioned the development of infrastructure including four bridges that are currently under construction, agricultural modernization, creation of Town Councils, Universal Primary Education (UPE), rural electrification and maintenance of security roads among other projects.

The defectors said that basing on the above developments, there was no reason for them to oppose the ruling government.

In his remarks, Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude, the Constituency NRM Chairperson and parliamentary hopeful reminded the defectors of the need to appreciate government for improving health services in the area especially the elevation of Nyabirongo Health Centre III to a Health Centre IV status.

He therefore challenged them to popularize the development projects that government has established in their respective areas.

Retired Bishop Zebedee Kahangwa Masereka who is the Senior Presidential Assistant in-charge of Western Region stressed that the MRM government was unique compared to other governments in the entire world, adding that it focuses on socio-economic development and livelihoods of citizens.

He used the same platform to highlight more on the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme and Youth Livelihood Programme that he said have benefited many people right away from the villages to improve their household incomes.

While receiving the defectors officially, Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Kasese District NRM Chairperson advised them to feel comfortable in the ruling party.

He however, observed need for them to get involved in active farming in an attempt to improve their livelihoods.
