Over shillings 60 million collected for the construction of Kasanga PHC

Over shillings 61 million both in cash and pledges and 45 bags of cement were yesterday collected during a donors’ conference aimed at completing a multimillion theater at Kasanga Primary Health Care (PHC) in Mpondwe –Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese district.

Msgr Landus Bwambale, the Vicar General for the Diocese of Kasese who represented the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Francis Acquirinus Kibira revealed that they were looking for shillings 1.122 billion to have the theatre completed.

According to him, Kasanga PHC overwhelmingly receives expectant mothers with some complications that require surgery but the leadership of the health facilities is left with no option apart from referring them to Bwera Government General Hospital and Kagando Hospital respectively.

Msgr Bwambale explained that over shillings 188 million has so far been used to construct the first floor of a storied building, adding that they were looking for the remaining balance of shillings 935 million to have the theatre completed.  

Rt. Hon. Lukia Isanga Nakadama, the third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio, who was he Chief Guest at the function was represented by Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Kasese District NRM Chairperson and former Defense Minister. Rt. Hon. Nakadama subsequently pledged shillings 5 million for the noble cause.

On his part, Dr. Kiyonga, who contributed shillings 2 million, commended the Diocese of Kasese for its contribution in the provision of health services to the local people.

Hon. Godfrey Atkins Katusabe, the Member of Parliament for Bukonzo County West, who contributed shillings 3 million, asked the Bishop to give them another chance to organize another fundraising, promising to convince the Speaker of Parliament to preside over the function.

The Kasese District Chairperson,Mr.Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, commended religious leaders for establishing and extending social services including health and education to the citizens of Uganda at a low cost.

He immediately handed over shillings 1.2 million that he said was raised by the Chief Administrative Officer and a few civil servants attached to the District headquarters.
