NIRA asks the public to monitor the distribution of IDS

BY OBED KULE

The National Identification and Registration Authority-NIRA has appealed to the people of Kasese to monitor the distribution of national identity cards and report any irregularities in the exercise.

Kasese District Registration Officer, Mr Arthur Katongole with the distribution now decentralized at lower local governments, the people ought to be vigilant so that there are no extortions conducted by the distribution officials in the 44 lower local governments.

Mr. Arthur Katongole said his office will not tolerate any acts of fleecing people of their hard-earned money for a service which is entirely free given that the renewal of national identity cards and the distribution expenses are fully funded by government.

He explained that NIRA doesn’t receive any money and any charges for given services including change of particulars and birth certificates are directly paid in the bank and thus cautioned people from giving any money to its officials.

Mr. Katongole also said that NIRA has launched 100-day community outreaches aimed at registering children from zero to 15 years, whose only requirement is the parent’s NIN number and urged the people of Kasese to embrace the activity.
