Kasese Municipal Council has authorized the idea of setting aside shillings 8,101,000 to facilitate the activities aimed at maintaining the composite plant or garbage collection centre situated in Kidodo Cell of the Railway Ward.
The motion which was moved yesterday during a council sitting by the Municipal Secretary for Social Services, Hon. John Kisembo Siriwayo who also doubles as the Councilor representing Railway Ward, who indicated that there was an urgent need to undertake short-term emergency restoration activities to regain basic operational control of the composite facility.
While moving the motion, Siriwayo explained that garbage had started becoming a threat to the lives of people living adjacent to collection centre because it contains wastes that decompose and produce smell that is toxic to them.
Siriwayo prayed that it would be okay for the said money to facilitate the hiring of at least four casual labourers to support the process of waste sorting, clearing and organizing the site as well as procuring essential waste handling tools and personal protective equipment including gloves and gumboots.
The Kasese Municipality Mayor, Chance Kahindo, revealed that they were working tooth and nail to ensure that the urban centre maintains the first position in terms of cleanliness.
He revealed they had embraced the National Cleaning Day that the government has ordered to always be implemented on every last Saturday of the month.
He, however, put it clear that the national cleaning policy doesn’t deter the polluter pay policy from being implemented, warning that the contractors of garbage will continue to operate.
Herbert Bwambale, the Council Speaker, confirmed the council’s resolution to authorize the funds for composite management activities. ENDS
