The Forum for Democratic Change in Kasese District has accused the Electoral Commission of allegedly delaying to respond to their petitions against the recently concluded village elections in the district.
Mr Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the party’s chairperson, argues that they have submitted multiple petitions but the electoral commission has allegedly not bothered to respond to them.
Kabuku, who addressed the journalists today evening, indicated that the party has filed more than 150 petitions against the election results across the entire district but the EC has not provided to them details, especially the original registers and copies of the declaration forms of the members that they declared having lost the elections.
According to Kabuku, whenever they approach the EC offices, they do not find the Returning Officer, alleging that it is a delaying tactic to frustrate their efforts aimed at challenging the recent village election outcome.
Kabuku says they want they want the electoral body to cancel the candidature of some people who have been nominated for the parish elections in the district yet they do not appear on village committees while others do not meet the requirements for nomination.
Responding to the concerns on phone, Kasese district Returning Officer, Mr. Godfrey Mbabazi refuted the claims, noting that his office is always open for guidance in regard to the elections.
He called on the complainants to reach him and submit their issues personally because it is his role to handle and manage electoral processes.
