Kasese concerned leader calls for equal treatment of children

BY MATHIUS KAHUNGU

There is urgent need to shift attention from only empowering the girls- children but ensure equal treatment with the boy-children to curtail the creation of a big gap between the two genders.

Mr. Moses Stephen Muhindo Muhanika, the St. Paul’s Cathedral Parish Head of Laity argues that whereas much emphasis is put on the girl child empowerment, it has sidelined the boy child and created a huge gap between the two genders.

He stresses that the empowered girls are likely to face challenges when looking for husbands of their status but all in vain.

It is upon this background that he observes the need to ensure equal treatment of children in terms of education and distribution of resources.

His statement was backed by Ven. Robert Ziwa, the Sub-dean at St. Paul’s Cathedral, who decried that currently the number of men attending church services has drastically reduced compared to women who are always the majority.

The duo made the comments today afternoon while addressing hundreds of Christians who had thronged St. Paul’s Cathedral for a confirmation service officiated over by the Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku. Most of the confirmands were from 12 primary schools and a few secondary schools in Kasese Municipality.

In his remarks, Bishop Baluku observed the need for the members of the Fathers’ Union Ministry to embark on a secret mission targeting their fellow men in attempt to bring them back on board.

He also implored the members of the Youth Ministry in the church to make strategic missions and prioritize preaching their counterparts especially the drug addicts in attempt to reclaim their souls.

Earlier in his sermon, the Bishop cautioned the Christians against acts of betrayal and hatred meted on each other, warning that such acts were not only going to deprive them of their blessings but also causing regrettable misery to them. ENDS
