Justice Centers and Kyondo sub-county leaders encourage cope up with changing economic situations

BY OBED KULE KITHENDE

Justice Centres – Kasese District Office together with the Kyondo Sub-county Youth Office today organized a one-day youth capacity building engagement.

The engagement was aimed at encouraging the youth especially those out of school to cope up with the ever-changing economic situations.

The training, which took place at the Sub-County Headquarters, follows a community concern of increasing criminality in the lower local government.

Recently, some leaders in the sub-county conducted a mini-survey about the causes of criminality in the area and discovered that biggest number of inmates at Nyabirongo Government Prison in Kisinga Town Council were the youth from Kyondo Sub-county.

After picking interest in the matter, Justice Centers today organized a session on skilling the youth so that they avoid the ever-increasing cases of petty thefts and suicidal behaviours in the lower local government which according to the organization are the major reasons why a big number of youths is in prison.

Some of the key Guest Speakers including Mr. Geoffrey Odongo, the Officer in-charge of Nyabirongo Government Prison reported that the youth would work and excel even if they dropped out of school before completing their studies.

He thus advised them to desist from joining the bad peer groups.

His Worship Badru Tamale, the Kisinga Grade I Magistrate, who warned the youth against the practice of engaging themselves in acts, urged the parents and local leaders to always report whenever their children are sexually insulted.

Speaker after speaker urged the youth to initiate some income generating projects and invest their money in productive ventures other than spending on buying drugs like marijuana, among others.

Franco Sahambili, the Kyondo Sub-county Secretary for Finance in the Youth Council, who appreciated Justice Centres for the conference, requested for more conferences from the leaders and other well-wishers, adding that if the youth are nurtured very well, the country can realize more developments.
