Inter-Religious Council of Uganda calls on her members to encourage vaccination among people in Kasese

BY JOACKIM KULE

Religious leaders in Kasese District have been urged to become ambassadors of health programs especially the ongoing vaccination of children against measles rubella, one of the killer diseases among the people.

The advice aligns with the ongoing vaccination program of children aged from 9 months to four years and 11 months across the country, a program that will run for five days starting from today and ending on Monday.

Rev. Ezra Yongeza Mukonzo, the Coordinator for the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda in the Rwenzori region, who attended the launch of the vaccination exercise at Parental Care Preparatory School in Kasese town, urged the preachers to use their available platforms to disseminate the information about the vaccination program to their followers.

Rev. Mukonzo warned against some gospels that discourage the people from taking up immunization, describing them as false, null and void teachings that are aimed at encouraging mortality rate.

The Kasese Assistant RDC in-charge of Busongora County, Henry Kabiriri, who officiated at the launch, explained that the government’s intention to vaccinate children was to enable them grow up without health complications.

According to him, ever since immunization was introduced, the rate of infant mortality rate has reduced.

Agnes Mbambu, the Kasese District Health Educator, explained that  they were targeting more than 140,000 children who lie under the defined category.

Josephine Mukwenda, the Chairperson for the Women Council in Kamaiba Ward, courted the fellow parents to ensure that they respond to the call for immunization.
