Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council chairperson Mr Joram Katambara Wakibanahi has today closed the office of the Treasurer of the town council and barred her from assuming office.
Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council has been operating without a treasurer for sometime following the transfer of the office bearer.
Recently, Kasese district chief administrative officer posted Ms Harriet Biira to the town council to assume the role which she once previously held at the same town council.
Now, today afternoon Kasese Principal Assistant Secretary Kikusa Mustafa embarked on a move aimed at enabling Biira to assume her role treasurer.
However, Wakibanahi vehemently opposed this move on grounds that Biira had once served Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council in the same capacity and her performance was found to be wanting by not only the then leadership under Modesto Bwambale Kanekerya but also by the entire community.
Wakibanahi went ahead and locked the office of the treasurer arguing that the officer in question had been previously accused of misappropriating town council funds.
The town council boss said he has on several occasions engaged the district authorities about the fact that the posted treasurer has issues associated with her financial integrity and wonders why the authorities at the district leadership have insisted that only her should be posted to Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council which he called a young urban unit.
