A section of candidates who lost from the recently concluded village elections in Kasese District has called on the government to prioritize sensitizing the masses about the importance of elections if the country is to have leaders with abilities to deliver services to the people.
Some leaders in the just concluded elections conspicuously earned smaller numbers of voters compared to their counterparts.
In Ibanda I B for example, Mr Selle Kasutama who had stood as an independent candidate got only one vote; the same number which Mr. Julius Bonane alias Moonberg, also got in his pursuit to become the local council one chairperson for Kidodo Cell.
In Saluti B meanwhile, a whole former Town Clerk for Kabatunda-Kirabaho Town Council, who has since retired from civil service, got a shocking paltry six votes.
Now, Messiah Radio shared a moment with Moonberg on why he secured only one vote where he narrated his views on the election outcome. According to him, political parties have undermined the individual merit and thus members who subscribe to a given political identity vote for a flagbearer of that political party without regard to his or her competencies.
Moonberg, who claims to have had the best manifesto, argues that Uganda is grappling with a civic and voter education deficit hence making it difficult for the electorate to vote for credible leaders.
Mr. Exevious Kenja also known as Kapere, who was the NUP candidate for Kihalimu-Kyaminyoku cell in Nyakabingo II ward, and garnered only two votes, explained that it was simply not yet his time.
Mr. Longino Kyakakalha who was an NRM flag bearer for Kitabu village and lost to the FDC argued that the election was never about an individual candidate but the interests of the community.
