More than 40 carpenters are counting losses after fire gutted carpentry workshops in Kasese Municipality. The burnt workshops are located in Kilembe quarters.
Bernard Kazoora, the LCI Chairperson said that the fire gutted the workshops in the wee hours of today morning and spread out to the entire workshops. The fire destroyed property including carpentry machines, chairs, beds and tables.
Tom Baluku, the proprietor of one of the burnt workshops says that some of the destroyed properties belonged to their clients.
The Kasese Divisional Police Commander, Wilfred Bagenda, says that they contained the fire from spreading to other places although the damages were grave. He says they have launched investigations to establish the possible cause of the fire.
In other developments, more than 40 houses have collapsed after a strong windstorm accompanied with a heavy down pour hit most parts of Kasese Municipality.
The catastrophe which occurred last night affected most areas including Kyababinga cell, Kirembe cell and Nyamirangara in the Central Division leaving permanent and semi- permanent structures destroyed. Bibwe village in Muhokya sub-county also registered a related incident.
Zalimon Tera whose permanent house was completely destroyed in Nyamirangara cell says the regrettable incident happened at around 7pm and last for 30 minutes. The affected persons have since sought refuge at their relatives’ homes but Aganatia Bwambale, the Vice Chi person for Kirembe cell says his office has started compiling a report to the higher authorities.
