Dr. Julius Monday Rude, who wants to retain the NRM flag for the position of Member of Parliament representing Bukonzo County East, has clashed with one of his competitors, Mr. Edwin Bairinga Kugonza over his remarks that he championed the release of the Rwenzururu King, Omusinga Wisely Mumbere Iremangoma and his subjects he was incarcerated with.
Yesterday, during their joint opening campaign rallies at the trading centres of Katoho, Kitsutsu and Kanyampara in Munkunyu sub-county, Mr. Kugonza severally told the people that he championed the release of the King and his incarcerated subjects after close to seven years of incarceration following a raid on the Kingdom’s Administration Offices and Buhikira Royal Palace by a joint security of UPDF and Police on November 26 and 27, 2016 respectively.
Responding to Kugonza’s remarks, Dr. Rude faulted him for using the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu in his political campaigns, reminding him that the cultural institution was non-partisan in politics.
However, Mr. Robert Baluku Finance Syaipuma told the gathering that it was through some irregularities allegedly involved in the NRM party primary elections that made him to fail and contested on an independent ticket.
On several occasions, the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu has issued a stern warning to the politicians against using the cultural institution for their political gains. ENDS
