Dr Kiyonga urges communities to uphold vital cultural practices

The Second Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, has urged local communities to uphold vital cultural values while dismantling harmful traditional practices that hold society back.

Speaking to mourners over the weekend during the sendoff of the late Kasaija Richard in Bugoye village of Bugoye Sub-county, Kasese District, Dr. Kiyonga emphasized that positive cultural norms have historically been the backbone of community survival and growth.

However, he drew a firm line against outdated customs, explicitly calling for an end to violence and gender-based discrimination, and urged for a shift towards progressive cultural evolution.

At the same event, the Kasese District Resident District Commissioner in charge of Bukonzo County, Lt. Matte Magwara, shifted the focus to youth development.

Addressing mourners, Lt. Magwara implored parents to prioritize their children’s education as the definitive pathway to a brighter future. While acknowledging government’s role in funding public education, the RDC reminded families that state support requires parental cooperation.

He challenged parents to step up and fulfill their responsibilities by consistently providing vital scholastic materials, such as books, uniforms, and writing tools, to ensure their children stay and succeed in school.
