Mr. Daniel Kashagama Ndahura II has been ordered by the Kasese Chief Magistrate’s Court to pay shillings 1,000,000 for compensation and court fine following a case of malicious damage to property that he has been battling.
Kashagama, a self – proclaimed King of the Basongora, who was arrested and remanded to Mubuku Government Prison on March 05, 2024 for causing malicious damage to property on an eight acre piece of land in Matuga – Nyakakindo in Hima Town Council, today appeared before court presided over by Her Worship Betty Ajok, the Kasese Chief Magistrate.
Her Worship Ajok said they had visited the land in question claimed by one Kagyenda Bwebale to ascertain the magnitude of the damages caused by Kashagama and discovered that they were not serious but minor.
Subsequently, Ajok ruled that Kashagama be fined shillings 500,000 as court fine and another shillings 500,000 as compensation for the damages caused or be imprisoned for one year should he fail to pay the said amount of money.
Speaking to the press shortly after the court session, Mr. Kashagama’s Lawyer, Counsel Francis Kasigazi from Byamukama Kaboneka & Co. Advocates, described the ruling as free and fair, adding that court delivered justice to both sides.
In his remarks, James Bakeine Amooti, the Premier of Basongora Ethnic Group, while addressing people who had thronged the court premises, asked them to remain peaceful, calm and united as they wait for the law to take its course.
