The Catholic Relief Services – CRS, through the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau and the Diocese of Kasese, have delivered a consignment of emergency supplies to the Kasese District Health Department to support the fight against the spread of Ebola.
The donated items include hand washing facilities, liquid soap, gloves, and other protective gears for health workers while going to the fields.
Mr Ismail Kawaje from Catholic Relief Services, noted the supplies donated would be distributed to both government and private health facilities across Kasese District to strengthen infection prevention and control at health center level.
Rev. Fr Richard Sausi Businge in charge of health department -Diocese of Kasese, reported that on top of the donation, the Catholic Relief Services was training stakeholders on how to battle the spread of the diseases including cultural and religious leaders, VHTs among others.
He has since advised the community to employ the Ministry of health guidelines like washing hands and avoiding crowded places to curtail the spread of the Ebola disease which is wreaking havoc in the neighboring DR-Congo.
While receiving the donation on behalf of the District, Mr. Mustafa Kikusa the principal secretary at the office of the CAO-Kasese thanked CRS and the Catholic Church for the timely support, saying it will boost preparedness and protect both health workers and patients.
