Rukoki General Hospital has decried the limited infrastructure to accommodate the rising number of neonates delivered from the health facility.
Dr. Loice Kabbyanga, the Deputy Medical Superintendent at the facility says during the previous year, at least 1,230 babies were delivered at the hospital with each neonate presenting different case, sometimes with special care needed.
However, Dr Kabbyanga says the hospital doesn’t have adequate facilities to give effective care to the neonates and appeals for urgent government support to put the necessary infrastructure to attend to them.
Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, acknowledges the problem, saying they will work hard to ensure that it resolved.
He made the remarks yesterday shortly after Rotary Club of Kasese Snow Peaks with support from Rotary Club of Winchester in the UK donated an assortment of neonatal items to the facility. The items, worth UGX 129 million, included 05 infant incubators, 03 patient monitors, 01 oxygen cylinder, 01 infant radiant warmer, all of them to be used in the neonatal ward.
Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Maate Magwara, lauded the development partners for supporting government extending effective healthcare to the people.
He reiterated government’s efforts in addressing the gaps highlighted at the facility.
