The Busongora County North Member of Parliament in Kasese District has expressed disappointment over what he describes as the alleged delay in the completion of Isule – Nyangorongo Gravity Water Flow Scheme in Maliba Sub-county.
The construction works of a shillings 9.5 billion water project funded by the Government of Uganda with support from the Indian Exim Bank started in 2024 with an aim of benefiting a population of 43,000 people.
On Sunday, Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa monitored the project and condemned the delays, saying the construction works should have been completed within last year according to the contract terms indicated in the agreement.
Kitanywa called on the contractors to expedite the process of completing the project by laying and joining the pipes into the trenches.
The legislator also cautioned the residents against the practice of vandalizing government projects especially by cutting water pipes, breaking taps and making illegal connections.
Florence Kyakimwa, the Woman District Councilor representing Maliba sub-county and Maliba Town Council, indicated that the population was still facing a challenge of lack of clean water despite the efforts of government to inject money in the project that is aimed at extending in the area.
Mr. Wilson Kisoboli, the Maliba Sub-county Chairperson, also called on the Member of Parliament to present the matter to the higher government offices so that they task the contractor to complete the construction works on time. ENDS
