Security in the Rwenzori Region has confirmed that 41 people were killed during the recent attack on security installations with more than 90 arrested.
Addressing the press, RDCs and Army Officials at Muhoti Barracks in Fort-portal City, Maj. Gen. Stephen Mugerwa the Mountain Divisional Commander/ Operation Shujaa revealed that despite all what happen in the wee hours of Saturday November 01, the general situation now remains calm and normal.
Maj. Gen. Mugerwa reported that in Kasese district, 18 attackers were put out of action, 06 police officers injured and 42 attackers captured while in Fort-portal City, 21 attackers were put out of action and 26 captured.
In Bundibugyo district, 01 UPDF Officer was killed alongside with his wife, 02 attackers were also put out of action and 22 captured.
The Divisional Commander subsequently told the meeting that the Ringleader of the attackers, Asuman Mukirania Muganzi, a resident of Kakuka II village, Kakuka Parish in Sindilela sub-county, Bundibugyo district was also put out of action during the incident.
Maj. General Mugerwa warned the members of the public against the practice of tribalizing the attacks since the attackers were from different tribes across the country.
He noted that both the UPDF and police were more than ready to protect the civilians and their property as a way of promoting and sustaining peace and stability in the country.
Earlier, the acting Public Relations Officer for the Mountain Division/Operation Shujja, Maj. Robert Kijuma had reported that the bodies of the killed attackers would soon be taken to Buhinga Regional Referral Hospital to allow the family members to view and identify them before taking them for a decent burial.
Meanwhile, the police in Kasese district have appealed to the relatives of the people who lost their relatives during the most recent attack on security installations to throng the Muhoti mortuary in Fort-portal City to identify their bodies and accord them a decent burial.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, however, advises the concerned persons to be mindful of providing their identities including photos and a letter from the village Chairperson before being allowed to take the bodies for burial.
