Kasese: Parents lectured about treating all children equally

Parents in Kasese district have been lectured about the need to treat their children both boys and girls equally.

This was during a community debate that was organized by Justice Livelihoods’ Health that was held at Munkunyu Sub- County headquarters in Bukonzo County East.

The debate was organized under the topic, “Girls and Women are not supposed to be given on their parents’ land and other properties.”

Ms Enid Kabugho, a resident of Nkunyu village says both children should be treated with equally in order to encourage fairness and equal opportunities for all regardless of gender.

Ms Aisha Biira says treating both girls and boys equally helps children to develop confidence, self-esteem and skills to realize their full potential.

Ms Rastatuta Biira, the Chairperson for Women Leaguein Kabingo Parish observes that treating all the children equally promotes inclusion and encourages children to explore their interests and talents without limitations.

However, most men includingJames Katuramu from Kyabisheri village and Julius Muzahura from Katsungiro village opposed the idea, saying giving equal shares to both girls and boys might let the girl children to disrespect their husbands.

Ms Jackie Akong. a Gender Trainer at Justice Livelihoods’Health says all the children are equal and have rights to education, good health and shelter among others.

She asked parents to embrace treating both children equally in order to empower them so that they become important people in future.
