The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has failed to hit the targeted number of recruits during the just concluded recruitment in Kasese district.
Yesterday, the UPDF extended the exercise in Kasese district with an aim of recruiting 209 young and energetic youth. However, the exercise that ended today afternoon has seen only 163 people recruited into the force.
Col. Richard Kitatta Sseguya, the Mountain Divisional Operations and Training Officer told the recruits that they had not realized the exact number of people they were targeting in Kasese district due to some reasons that he did not disclose.
He noted that out of the 163 recruits, the males were 151 in number while their female counterparts were only 12.
The Army Officer categorically put it clear that the recruits would transport themselves to Kaweweta Military Training School in Bulemezi, Nakaseke district with effect from tomorrow up to Saturday.
He emphasized the need for them to maintain discipline and prove loyalty to their leaders.
The Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Joe Walusimbi told the recruits to always love their country and play a vital role of protecting it after being passed out.
Lt. Walusimbi challenged them to champion the fight against corruption as emphasized by the Head of State.
Mr. Christopher Happy, the District Councillor representing Hima Town Council attributed the low turn-up of the recruits to the alleged leaders’ failure to disseminate information about the recruitment exercise to the masses as well as guiding them on the necessary steps to be undertaken.
