The police in Kasese district, Rwenzori East Policing Region have vowed not to entertain any drunkard people at the polling stations during the forthcoming NRM primary elections for the positions of District Chairperson, District Councillors, Municipal Mayor and Municipal Councillors.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson argues that during the recently concluded primary elections for the Members of Parliament, they registered many cases of people appearing at the polling stations while drunk and allegedly disorganized the exercise.
Addressing the press today morning at Kasese Central Police Station, SP Tumushime revealed that in the forthcoming primary elections on Thursday this week, security would deploy heavily, warning that drunkards would be chased away from the polling stations.
According to him, drunkenness influences voters to begin some jubilations even before the official declaration of the election results, hence inciting violence among the community members.
Referring to the recently concluded primary elections, SP Tumushime revealed that they registered simple cases related to assault and alteration of voters’ register in Bukonzo County West.
He, however, stressed that as security operatives, they intervened and immediately brought the situation to normal as a way of maintaining peace and unity among the voters of different candidates.
