Young people in Kasese decry high rates of unemployment

BY ISAAC MUMBERE

A section of young people in Kasese district has decried the idling and unemployment among them; and called on government to urgently address the two challenges.

A group of youths from Nyakatonzi Sub-county who had gathered at Kaguta grounds noted that several of their colleagues are wasting away especially in substance abuse because there are no efforts to engage them in profitable ventures.

Mr. Obadiah Bwambale, captain of the Kizungu Football Club in Nyakatonzi, said that most of their demands remain unmet and appealed to politicians to prioritise the needs of young people since they comprise the majority in the country’s population.

Bwambale noted that even a decent education has increasingly become expensive making it inaccessible especially to the girls who are sometimes sidelined by their parents.

He, however, implored government to embrace sports and prioritise it adding that it has potential to not only demobilize young people from drug abuse but also act as a source of employment to the talented youths.

Dr. Monday Rude Julius Bwambale, a parliamentary hopeful on the NRM ticket noted that young people’s concerns ought to be given priority by the ruling government.

He observed that there is need to increase their employability by equipping them with hands-on skills which are important within the community.
