Ugandans courted to supplement government’s efforts towards creating peace and stability across all the borders

The Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has urged Ugandans to back the government’s efforts geared towards creating peace and stability across all the borders in the country.

Col (Rtd) Tom Butiime sounded the remarks this evening while officiating at the World Tourism Day celebrations that were held at Nyakasanga Playground in Kasese Municipality, Kasese district.

The World Tourism Day that attracted thousands of people from within Uganda and outside the country was organized under the theme, “Tourism and Peace.” It was aimed at restoring hope among the communities to appreciate that Kasese is peaceful and has the potential to host tourism attractions.

Col. Butiime noted that it was the core value of the sitting government to ensure that peace prevails and hence create an environment that is suitable for tourism activities in the country, adding that this would be possible if all the stakeholders contributed to the cause.

The Minister also told the gathering that government was also committed to training hikers so that they play the role of promoting national and international tourism activities in a professional manner.

Butiime stressed that government has also advanced the tourism activities through recognizing the Rwenzori Theluji for a natural based adventure and cultural tourism in Kasese district.

Ms Doreen Katusiime, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities implored Ugandans to make tourism activities a vehicle for peace and stability if they are to enjoy its good fruits.

Mr. Eliphazi Muhindi Bukombi, the Kasese District Chairperson noted that basing on the natural resources in the district, they have come up with a Tourism Investment and Climate Change Adaption Plan that is aimed at creating a reliable environment for tourism activities in Kasese and other neighbouring districts including Bushenyi and Rubirizi.

Hon. Ferigo Kambale, the Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament appealed to the government to consider elevating Kasese Airfield to an international airport and then improve the roads to pave way for the tourists to travel with ease.
