Katwe Divisional Police are having in custody a 52-year-old business man on allegations of defiling a ten-year-old girl.
Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the suspect as Ismael Bamuturaki who was also a guardian to the victim given that he is a husband to the aunt of the young girl.
ASP Maate says preliminary information indicates that an aunt to the ten-year-old girl left home on June 20th and went to Mubende for a visit leaving her husband and the young girl in their two-roomed house.
He added that from 15 this month, the suspect started picking the victim from the sitting room where she normally sleeps during the night and would take her to the bedroom, a routine that continued until Monday this week when the young girl disclosed this to a friend pupil at Katwe Primary School.
Apparently, the friend then narrated the same to Mr Julius Sunday, the head teacher at Katwe Primary School who instantly reported the matter to police that swung into action and apprehended the suspect.
The regional police mouthpiece revealed that a charge of aggravated defilement has been registered with medical examinations being undertaken on the young girl as investigations into the matter continue.
