500 expectant mothers receive maternal healthcare kits

BY OBED KULE

More than 500 expectant mothers across Kasese District have received essential maternal healthcare packs in a large distribution drive organized by the Mountain Girl Initiative.

The initiative by Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Sarah Ithungu Baleke, is intended at promoting safer motherhood and strengthen rural access to maternal healthcare services.

Hon. Sarah says the ongoing distribution targets vulnerable mothers in Kasindi-Nyakabingo Sub-county, Busongora South, and Isule Parish, Maliba Sub-county, Busongora North County.

She noted that the drive fulfills her campaign pledge to help improve maternal health and reduce maternal and infant mortality in the district.

Local leaders including Bweya Kesi and Musubaho Kesi, area chairpersons of Isule and Kasindi villages respectively, welcomed the intervention and described it as timely.

The two however urged the MP to lobby the central government for more development projects to improve people’s livelihoods in their areas.

Beneficiaries including Mrs. Loice Biira and Mrs. Ester Biira commended Hon. Sarah for the donation. They also appreciated her for paying them a courtesy visit shortly after assuming office and pledged continued support.
